Archery Taster Sessions and Beginners' Courses

Taster Sessions

Even if you have never picked up a bow and arrow before, then come along to one of our Try Archery Taster Sessions delivered by our amazing team of qualified archery coaches.

After the success of our day of Taster Sessions in May, we were pleased when our September date also sold out within days!

We will be holding another day in the spring of 2024 so, if you missed out this year, then keep an eye on our website and social media for when the date is announced. Or click the button below and we'll let you know when it's happening.

Remember, our taster sessions are only 45 minutes long and just cover the basics of shooting a bow and arrow. If you would like to develop your archery skills much further, then please consider signing up for one of our Beginners' Courses.

What happens on a Beginners' Course?

Over the course of the four 2-hour sessions, our qualified coaches will take you from having only  the bare basics of skill and knowledge from previously completing a "Taster Session" to being a competent and safe archer.

We will guide you through a series of drills & skills aimed at instilling good technique as well as shooting several different archery disciplines. You will learn how to set up a bow, the shot process, using a sight, scoring and the all important etiquette and safety rules. All of this in a fun and relaxed environment.

In the final week you will be able to shoot the first part of a 252 round (a popular scheme aimed at developing an archers progress over increasing distances) with a view to you earning your first award badge if you, as we very much hope you will, choose to continue shooting as a full member of the club.

If you can't make our next course, don't worry as we'll be running more in 2024 (exact dates to be confirmed). Advance booking will be available from early March, so be sure to keep an eye on this page for the dates and sign-up form.

Or click here and we'll let you know when it's happening.

Suggested Reading...

If you're embarking on a Beginners' Course, and you'd like to have a physical book to assist your learning, then the Archery for Beginners Guidebook is worth a look.

Written and produced by Archery GB, it has been designed to guide beginners through their first steps in target archery. It's fully illustrated, easy to follow and packed with information on types of archery, technique, equipment, the range, scoring and competition.

It's pretty widely available through all the usual online book retailers and archery stores - the ISBN is 9780957454804.

Although not essential, it does make useful and interesting reading and will help reinforce everything you will learn on your course.
