Archery Warm Up

Warming up properly before taking part in archery is vital to reduce the chance of fatigue and injury. It will increase your muscle and blood temperature leading to better performance and reducing soreness after shooting.

In this video, produced by World Archery, Great Britain’s Naomi Folkard demonstrates a series of warm up exercises and explains how sheaves them before shooting to keep her arms, shoulders and lower back mobilised to avoid injury.

Drills & Skills

Archery GB have developed a series of “Drills and Skills” which are aimed at improving your shooting technique.

They can be performed at home, often with just a stretch/fitness band and they will help you learn good technique. They are ideal for when you first start shooting to help you learn the correct positions, or you can go back to the drills as you need to when you are looking to improve an aspect of your shooting technique.

Before Getting Started - a word of caution:
You should always speak to your doctor before you change, start, or stop any part of your healthcare plan, including physical activity or exercise. Reading health and exercise information online may be helpful, but it cannot replace the professional diagnosis and treatment you might need from a qualified healthcare provider.

Click the link below for a page* of video instructions demonstrating key archery skills that you may want to practice away from the range to help improve your archery technique.

You won't even need a bow for most of them, just a stretch/resistance band!

Presented by Archery GB’s Coach Development Manager Lloyd Brown and Duncan Busby, the video to the right is produced by Archery GB as part of their Boost Archery scheme and shows a selection of their Drills and Skills and explains the benefits to the archer of using them.

Suitable for recurve, barebow and longbow archers, Lloyd and Duncan share their considerable experience to help you practice technical elements of your shot at home and keep your skills fresh for the range.
